About

Boerne Lake (also called Boerne City Lake) is a 189-acre reservoir about one mile outside of downtown Boerne in Kendall County, reaching a maximum depth of 49 feet and surrounded by an additional 100 acres of parkland managed as Boerne City Lake Park. Gas-powered motors are prohibited to protect water quality; kayaks, canoes, and electric-motor boats are welcome at the park's concrete boat ramp. Fishing is the main draw — largemouth bass, channel catfish, and bluegill are the primary species, with white bass, yellow bass, striped bass, redear sunfish, warmouth, and smallmouth bass also recorded. A fishing pier provides shore access, and a nine-hole disc golf course winds through the forested lakefront for a round that covers about 2.1 miles. Additional amenities include picnic areas with grills, a playground, a sand volleyball court, stand-up paddleboard access, and a large covered pavilion available for rent. The park is managed by the City of Boerne and is open daily.

Shade Details

Cedar and live oak shoreline provides shade on the trail and some lakeside picnic areas. Open water is exposed. Morning visits offer best shade on the hiking trail.

Conditions & Tips

Lake level drops in drought. Bass fishing is best in spring. Quiet on weekdays — good alternative to crowded Canyon Lake for a peaceful morning paddle.
