About

Coleto Creek Reservoir sits 90 miles southeast of San Antonio near the transition between South Texas brush country and the Coastal Bend. The reservoir and surrounding brush attract an impressive array of South Texas specialties — Crested Caracara, White-tailed Kite, and Roseate Spoonbill in season. Bass fishing is excellent, and the campground has good facilities. The park manages significant brushy habitat that rewards birders who walk the perimeter road.

Shade Details

South Texas brush provides some shade along the perimeter road. Lakeside areas and boat ramps are fully exposed. Bring a canopy for afternoon stays.

Conditions & Tips

Winter and spring are best for birding. Bass fishing peaks in spring. Summer is brutal heat — come for multi-day camping with early morning activities.
