Northwest SA
Eisenhower Park protects 420 acres of authentic Hill Country terrain on San Antonio's northwest side, with nearly six miles of trails descending into wooded dry creek beds, climbing rocky ridgelines, and crossing limestone canyon floors. Trails are graded Level One (paved, accessible) through Level Four (rugged singletrack with loose rocks and boulders), and the most popular route is the Hillview and Yucca Nature Trail Loop — a 2.9-mile combination with 282 feet of elevation gain. At the park's high point, a reconstructed observation tower at roughly 1,280 feet of elevation delivers sweeping 360-degree views that include the downtown San Antonio skyline on clear days. No bicycles or scooters are permitted, making Eisenhower a hiker-only sanctuary that tends to feel quieter than nearby multi-use parks. The park connects directly to the Leon Creek Greenway paved trail at its northern boundary, offering a convenient extension for those who want more mileage. Picnic areas, grills, and a large pavilion are available near the main parking lot. Summer heat builds quickly on the exposed rocky trails, so bring extra water and aim for a pre-9 a.m. start from June through August.
