Hill Country
Garner State Park sits along 2.9 miles of the spring-fed Frio River in the Texas Hill Country, where clear, 68°F water makes summer heat manageable. Sixteen miles of scenic trails wind through 1,774 acres of cedar and oak, with routes climbing to bird's-eye ridgeline views. Paddle boats, kayaks, and inner tubes are available for rent from the park store during summer season, and shore fishing requires no license for guests staying overnight. Garner is famous for a tradition dating to the 1940s: every summer evening from Memorial Day through Labor Day, visitors gather at the Civilian Conservation Corps-built concession pavilion for a free jukebox dance open to all ages. The 17 air-conditioned historic cabins book months in advance, so reserve early — the park regularly reaches capacity during summer weekends and holidays. Feral hogs are present; secure food and coolers at all times.
Shade Details
