Hill Country
Garner State Park on the Frio River is the most visited state park in Texas, and for good reason. The crystal-clear Frio River runs cold even in July, the bald cypress canopy is exceptional, and the overnight camping under the stars is hard to beat. Hiking trails climb limestone bluffs above the river for sweeping canyon views. Reservations are essential — it books out months in advance for summer weekends. Day-use passes also fill up fast.
