About

Guadalupe River State Park sits on a beautiful stretch of the Guadalupe River near Bulverde, 40 minutes north of San Antonio. Towering bald cypress trees line the riverbank, providing excellent shade and keeping the river corridor noticeably cooler than surrounding areas. Tubing, swimming, and kayaking on the river are the main draws in summer. The hiking trails explore cedar and oak uplands above the river with occasional limestone bluff views. A reliable summer escape when SA gets unbearable.

Shade Details

Dense bald cypress canopy along the river corridor; upland trails more exposed.

Conditions & Tips

Day-use capacity fills fast on summer weekends — arrive before 9am or book in advance. Tubes available for rent nearby. Flash flooding possible after heavy rain upstream.

River levels drop in drought; swimming is less appealing below certain flows.
