Northwest SA
The Leon Creek Greenway is a roughly 20-mile paved multi-use trail system that follows Leon Creek through the western half of San Antonio, connecting a string of parks from Eisenhower Park in the north to Pearsall Park near the south side. Along the way it passes through O.P. Schnabel Park, Bamberger Nature Park, Cathedral Rock Park, and skirts the UTSA campus, offering walkers, runners, and cyclists a largely car-free corridor with limestone bluffs, heritage oak trees, small ponds teeming with birds, and stretches of native wildflowers. The trail is paved and mostly flat with gentle rollers, making it accessible to a wide range of fitness levels, and dogs are welcome on leash. Most trailhead access points offer parking, drinking fountains, and restrooms. The Greenway is not entirely continuous — a short gap exists near Rodriguez County Park — so first-time users should download a trail map before heading out. Summer heat is significant on the exposed stretches, so early-morning starts are strongly recommended between June and September.
Shade Details
Mostly shaded along creek corridor; exposed stretches near Ingram and Culebra crossings.
