Northeast San Antonio
Natural Bridge Caverns, 30 minutes north of downtown San Antonio, sits beneath a 60-foot natural limestone bridge on the Edwards Plateau and has been open to the public since 1964. The Discovery Tour descends 180 feet below the surface on a 0.75-mile paved walking path through massive chambers decorated with stalactites, stalagmites, flowstone, and soda straw formations; the cavern maintains a constant 70°F and 99% humidity year-round, providing cool relief during hot Texas summers. An Adventure Tour option goes deeper into undeveloped passages for a more technical caving experience lasting 2–3 hours. Above ground, the property offers a 60-foot ropes and zip-rail course, gem and fossil mining, and a 5,000-square-foot outdoor maze. The surrounding Edwards Plateau landscape supports white-tailed deer, wild turkey, armadillos, and diverse Hill Country songbirds. All tours require advance ticketing; the cavern tours sell out on peak summer and holiday days, so booking online ahead of time is recommended.
Shade Details
Mixed cedar and live oak provides intermittent shade. The natural bridge formation itself creates a shaded overhang.
