About

Walker Ranch Historic Landmark Park is a roughly 80-acre natural area in north San Antonio at the confluence of Panther Springs Creek and Salado Creek, added to the City of San Antonio park system in 1999. The site has deep historical layering: archaeological evidence shows hunting and gathering peoples used this creek confluence as a recurring campsite over thousands of years, drawn by water, native plants, game, and chert for tool-making; the land later served as part of the Monte Galvan supply ranch that provisioned Mission San Antonio de Valero (the Alamo) during the Spanish colonial period. A historic windmill near the park entrance stands as a reminder of the 19th-century livestock era. The park offers a 0.5-mile paved, lighted jogging path plus approximately one mile of natural-surface nature trail along the creekside habitat, along with a playground, covered pavilions, restrooms, and drinking water at the entrance. The trail network connects through riparian woodland with views of both Salado Creek and Panther Springs Creek. The park is located at 12603 West Ave and is free and open daily.
